I want to thank you all for being free subscribers to Everything Was Beautiful. Since beginning this newsletter in March, I’ve written on everything from slot streaming to virtuous habit-forming to library sales and bad books. I’ve also maintained a monthly reading recap that has fulfilled its goal of encouraging me to write more, read more and retain more from the things I read. I have also found time this year to pursue paid writing opportunities that have kept me distracted from publishing here as much as I would like.
Because so much of this project has been an effort to psychologically trick myself into forming better writing habits, I’m adding a new incentive to increase my focus here: I’ve decided to launch paid subscriptions to Everything Was Beautiful.
While I plan to keep my main content (my reading recaps and occasional essays) free for all subscribers, paid subscribers will have access to the upcoming Everything Was Beautiful podcast, where I plan to record audio versions of articles previously published both on my Substack and in other venues. Subscribers will also have access to a new planned series where I will share updates on my academic writing and in-progress essays, a bit of a “behind the scenes” on the reading, research, and thinking I’m doing as I prepare works for publications both academic and popular. I have other planned essay series that I can’t wait to share with you, some of which will be available for free, and some of which will be reserved for subscribers.
Some of you have already pledged to support, and for that I am immensely grateful. If you are willing and interested in supporting my writing here, I can promise only that I will continue to deliver enthusiastic, book-loving essays on a regular basis for your enjoyment. Thank you all for your time.
this makes me happy to see. good luck, Philip!🔥
